A Red Dot award is a major coup in the automobile world. The company has been active in the industry since 1955, making Mazda’s most recent wins all that more prestigious. The symbol of Red Dot, that is anointed to its winners from 48 categories of car, is a World renowned symbol of trust in our industry.
Mazda’s latest mastermind creations; The Mazda CX-30, a sleek and stylish SUV, and The Mazda MX-30, the notorious brands’ first electric vehicle have both been acknowledged in this year's Red Dot Design Awards.
Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot, says:
“The winners of the Red Dot Award have proved that they have created excellent products worthy of winning an award..... The products won over the jury not only through their aesthetics, but also thanks to their incomparable functionality. With their designs, the award winners are setting new standards in their industry.”
Both of these eye catching cars have joined the list of Mazda’s many great accomplishments in 2020. They are also categorised under the impressive list of award-winning vehicles that have been crafted by Mazda under their latest ideology; Kodo: Soul Of Motion.
The Kodo: Soul of Motion philosophy consists of artistic vehicle construction intertwined with customary Japanese allure.
To quote Jo Stenuit, Mazda’s European Design Director:
“The Japanese master craftsmen have always prized simplicity of form, of being beautifully pure... This inspired our designers to trim back elements and create something dynamic yet elegant, restrained yet vital. This is how we perceive Japanese aesthetics – a sensibility that has created emotionally moving cars.”
The Mazda CX-30 is the second model to be produced under this philosophy. Mazda truly encapsulates the essence of minimalism with the CX-30 and mastered a crisp and fresh vehicle. They then followed suit with the ever so original and fashionable MX-30 SUV model.
Mazda’s latest revolutionary efforts include their Sky-Activ Vehicle Architecture. This is a design concept Mazda is developing with the goal and desire to draw from humans natural instinct for balance, to create a connection to the vehicle for a higher innate control. One of its main factors is the Skyactiv X engine- a petrol engine intended to hold characteristics of a diesel engine.
The CX-30 is an impeccable vehicle with a strong focus on efficiency, quality and user-centricity. On the other hand, the MX-30, while still holding true to the essence of the Kodo ideology, the MX-30 holds a certain contemporary, visionary and cutting edge flair within its design on top of its high quality innerworkings- creating a vehicle that proves favourable in these modern times.
Mazda MX-30 Chief Designer Youichi Matsuda says:
“This new approach has resulted in an original design that embodies the expansion of Kodo’s expressive range.... The exterior is uncompromisingly simple to emphasise its beauty as a solid mass, and the cabin design – with its framed top and freestyle doors – embodies an image of lightness while proactively incorporating sustainability as an element for the interior materials.. As we begin an era of great change, we want the Mazda MX-30 to show people that our cars can still deliver pure joy of driving.”
Mazda’s latest electric efforts include their e-Skyactiv engine. It consists of a 35.5kWh lithium ion battery, setting up its customers with roughly 200km from a full charge. An average European driver would fulfil 48km in a day, proving that Mazda’s e-Skyactiv goes above and beyond. This revolutionary technology alongside the i-Activsense safety features both contribute to the effortless, serene, noiseless ride that comes with Mazda’s electric vehicles.
Prior to this Mazda had snagged 7 Red Dot awards, the CX-30 & MX-30 bringing them up to 9 Red Dot awards. Congratulations Mazda!
